Respectful and Inclusive Workplace Module

Participating in a placement or work-integrated learning (WIL) experience is a fantastic opportunity, but it can also involve some challenges.

These include adjusting to workplace environments, professionalism expectations, exposure to unfamiliar experiences, navigation of workplace relationships, and interactions with clients, customers, or patients.

For most students, these experiences are rewarding and affirming. In alignment with our gender-based violence prevention and response priorities, and to ensure a positive and respectful placement experience, this module will provide information about your rights and responsibilities, and where you can get support if you need it.

Over recent years, Equity and Inclusion have partnered with WIL teams across Deakin to raise awareness of student rights, support and report services during their participation in placements or internships.

As part of ongoing work in this space, we encourage you to complete a university-wide pre-placement module developed to prevent and respond to all forms of gender-based violence.

What you will learn

This module is expected to take 15 minutes and has been designed to be completed before undertaking a placement or internship experience. Content has been reviewed by staff, students and by the Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre.

When you complete this module, you will learn about:

  • your right to a respectful and inclusive workplace experience, as well as your responsibilities while on placement
  • where to seek advice and support
  • how to recognise and respond to risks, contributing to safer placement environments in line with national standards.

The module is optional and is not intended to replace course or unit-specific placement information or pre-placement requirements.

You can access this module via the self-registration in tool in DeakinSync. Simply search for Respectful and Inclusive Workplace Pre-Placement Module. You can also use this link.
