Whether you're an undergraduate, postgraduate or research student, you’re going to want to attend Orientation and OWeek!
Orientation is offered online and at our vibrant campuses where you can attend events and activities in person. OWeek is held from Monday 1 November–Friday 5 November and will help you make a great start to study and life at Deakin.
As all Orientation sessions will be online you can get a taste of our progressive, real-world digital approach to learning wherever you're located. You'll also be supported by current students and peer leaders who will be available in most sessions throughout the week for practical and academic assistance.
On campus, there'll be information desks set up, plus we'll be running campus tours, social events and activities – all in a COVIDSafe way – to welcome you to the Deakin community, connect you to your peers and help you become familiar with campus services and support.
Orientation sessions include:
- course overview sessions
- study support information
- Welcome to Deakin – learn about what your study experience and student life will be like at Deakin
- Explore the Library – find out about services such as 24-hour Library Chat
- social activities run in partnership with the Deakin University Students Association (DUSA).

Use our Orientation app to build your Orientation itinerary and find details of events and activities that are tailored to you based on your course and the campus you're enrolled at. Make sure you also check your Deakin emails for details on how to prepare for OWeek.
OWeek session highlights

You can find out more and register for these sessions in the Orientation app.
Higher degree by research (HDR) students
When you enrol as a HDR student you will receive a range of communication including an email outlining your online Orientation experience. To set you up for success we have developed an online Orientation experience that includes recorded sessions and allows you to engage with your Orientation in your own time.
You'll learn about the services and facilities we offer, and get the chance to connect with other commencing HDR students, as well as meet and hear from current HDR students about their university experience.
