Entrepreneurial Deakin student makes a job instead of finding one
Deakin Hallmarks are university awards designed to give Deakin students opportunities to gain recognition for skills that are prized in the workplace. The Deakin Hallmark for Entrepreneurial Thinking was developed by representatives from Deakin’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and industry partners (including entrepreneurs and individuals working in innovative organisations) in recognition of the value of entrepreneurial and innovative thinking to the competitiveness of individuals and organisations in our globalised and fast-paced economy.
Like many students, Braden needed to earn an income to support himself while he studied. However, rather than seeking employment, he used his entrepreneurial skills and understanding of business ventures to invest in what became a thriving family business.
“Although most entrepreneurs in Australia are opportunity driven, in some ways my father and I are necessity driven as I need to support myself through University and my father needed to find a way to make an income that didn’t jeopardise his health” explains Braden.
