Prizes to the value of $500 each, awarded to the highest achieving postgraduate students who have achieved a combination of both high academic results together with outstanding results in teaching practice. This is based on their results for the duration of their postgraduate course:

• Master of Teaching (Early Childhood)

• Master of Teaching (Primary)

The Victorian Music Teacher Association (VMTA) Graduate Teacher Award acknowledges a single pre-service teacher each year who, while undertaking secondary double music methods as part of the Deakin Master of Teaching program, has demonstrated an excellent level of work, achieved high grades and shown commitment to music education through their engagement and contributions with the unit content, as well as their passion and promise as an instrumental music teacher.

This award includes a framed certificate and one year of complimentary membership with the VMTA, inclusive of free access to the VMTA Learning Hub annual subscription.

Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies Emerging Scholar Prize 

Awarded annually by Honorary Fellow Dr Linda Young to a graduand from the Master of Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies (A768), Master of Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies (Professional) (A768I), Master of Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies (Brandenburg dual program) (A768B) (inclusive of pipelining course offerings within this discipline) who achieved outstanding academic achievement throughout the Internship and/or Research Capstone units (APE700 Internship A, APE701 Internship Capstone, AIX701 Research Paper, AIX704 Minor Thesis A, AIX705 Minor Thesis B, AIX702 Major Thesis A, AIX703 Major Thesis B). The prize shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit. The recipient of this prize sponsored by Dr Linda Young, will receive a monetary amount of $1,000 and a certificate.

Hans Löfgren Politics and Policy Prize 

Commemorating Associate Professor Hans Löfgren who was an integral member of Deakin’s Politics and Policy group between 2001 and 2014, and an associate editor of the Australian Journal of Political Science. The prize is awarded annually to the outstanding Honours student completing research for (AIX702/3) Major Thesis, or Master Dissertation (AIX704/5) Minor Thesis, or AIX495/6 Honours Thesis from Politics and Policy Studies, or the Master of Politics and Policy. The recipient will receive a $100 e-gift card and a certificate.

Lynne Alice Prize 

Commemorating Dr Lynne Alice (1954-2009), a New Zealand-born activist, writer and intellectual, who was appointed the first Director of Women’s Studies at Massey in 1995; and Deakin University Senior Lecturer in International Relations from 2004-09. Dr Lynne Alice was a very committed teacher, engaging students in her discipline knowledge of international humanitarian law, refugees and human rights, and gender studies.   Awarded annually to the most outstanding student for their excellence in the Master of International Relations in the Human Rights and International Law specialisation.  The recipient will receive a $100 e-gift card and a certificate.

Naomi and Iisi Leibler Prize for the best MA or PhD Thesis 
Commemorating Naomi and Isi Leibler this prize is awarded to a student for the best MA or PhD thesis approved during the previous year in Humanities and Social Sciences discipline. The recipient of this prize will receive a sponsored monetary amount of $500.

Philip Brown Award 

Commemorating Dr Philip Brown (1904-1996), an eminent historian whose work is characterised by meticulous research and the extensive use of primary sources.

The prize is awarded annually to an enrolled higher degree by research student within the Faculty of Arts and Education, for research into Australia, Australian History or other relevant areas of study in which aspects of Australian History are present. The recipient of this prize will receive a sponsored monetary amount up to $3,300 and a certificate.

Renee Erdos Memorial Award 

Commemorating Renee Erdos (1911–1997), who was a teacher and distance education practitioner. 
Awarded annually to the highest achieving Humanities and Social Sciences or Communication and Creative Arts Honours student in the Faculty of Arts and Education - A400 Bachelor of Arts (Honours), more than half of whose honours program has been undertaken off-campus. The recipient of this prize will receive a sponsored monetary amount and a certificate.

Roslyn Lawry Award 

This annual award for excellence in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies commemorates Roslyn Lawry (1962–1987), an exceptional Museum Studies graduate whose promising career was tragically cut short. In 1989, her parents, Jim and Fay Lawry, established an endowment for an annual prize to be awarded to an outstanding student in the Master of Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies who also demonstrates a personal commitment to heritage/museum excellence. This award has a dedicated Committee that invites a shortlist of students to submit applications for consideration. The recipient of this prize will receive a sponsored monetary amount up to $3,000 and a framed certificate to be presented at the AMaGA (Victoria) Awards.
