How to register for graduation

In your final trimester of study, you'll receive an invitation via your Deakin email to register for graduation. Once you've received your invitation, you can register for the next round of ceremonies via StudentConnect.

Your invitation will be sent on Monday 20 October 2025 (AEST).

Please note, registering to graduate does not mean you will be eligible to graduate. Your faculty will assess you as eligible to graduate prior to the cut-off date for each round of ceremonies for you to graduate.

How to register

  1. Go to StudentConnect.
  2. Select 'Apply to graduate' in the side menu and follow the prompts.
  3. You can choose to attend, graduate in absentia or defer your graduation. There is no charge to graduate in absentia.
  4. Check that your postal address, phone number/s and email address are all current.
  5. Visit 'View your application status' in StudentConnect to check if your application was successful.
  6. Your award eligibility will be confirmed in 'View your application status'.
  7. Contact Student Central if you need help with your registration.
  8. You will receive an email confirming your ceremony information four to six weeks prior to your graduation.

If you can't attend your ceremony

If you can't make it to your graduation, you can choose to graduate 'in absentia' in StudentConnect.

Graduating 'in absentia' means graduating without attending the graduation ceremony. Your qualification is officially conferred by the University Chancellery in your absence and goes on public record. Your testamur is sent to you after the graduation.

Please note: If you graduate in absentia, you will not be able to attend a future graduation ceremony for that same award.

There is no charge to graduate 'in absentia'. As your testamur will be mailed to you, make sure your address and phone details are up to date in StudentConnect.

Deferring your graduation

Deferring your graduation means that you wish to postpone your ceremony attendance to a later round of ceremonies. You won't graduate or receive your testamur until you graduate at a future ceremony in 2027.

To defer your graduation, simply select the 'defer' option in StudentConnect. You will then be sent a new invitation at the appropriate time for the next round of ceremonies.

You can choose to defer your graduation for a maximum of 12 months after your course completion date.

Graduation costs

There is no graduation fee for students enrolled and studying at our GIFT City campus who wish to attend their ceremony.

Guest tickets

Each graduate is allocated two guest tickets. GIFT City graduates will receive an email with information on how they can register for their guest tickets online with Reed Events from Monday 12 January 2026.

Graduation documents

The documents you receive at graduation ceremony are a mark of your achievements at Deakin, the skills you’ve developed and your hard work. For more information on graduation documents, please visit Graduate documents.

Once your course status is COMPLETED, you can receive a completion letter, a digital academic transcript, and a physical academic transcript. The digital document will be sent to your email and is accessible via the platform My eQuals. The physical transcript can be requested at Student Central. Please do not order this online as the online request form is for Deakin Australia students (with fees charged accordingly).
