We welcome everyone
At Deakin, we value diversity, embrace difference and welcome all. Wherever you come from, however you identify, we welcome you. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and respectful community and invite you to join us by upholding our values.
We offer a range of services to support our diverse student community:
- We are committed to Reconciliation and Treaty, advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education, and enabling the next generation of leaders to thrive. Our NIKERI institute is dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander access to higher education. We also offer tutoring and counselling for indigenous and First Nations students.
- We are a global community and welcome students from all over the world. If you are an international student, we offer a range of resources to support you during your time at Deakin, including social events, health services, visa support and English language assistance.
- We recognise and value our LGBTIQ+ students and staff. If you identify as a member of this community or want to show your support as an ally, you can learn more about our range of initiatives and services, including our inclusion spaces (including queer rooms and all-gender toilets). Keep an eye out for our rainbow signage, a visual reminder that you are in a LGBTIQ+ friendly environment.
- We welcome students from diverse faiths and spiritualities. Places of worship are situated at our Burwood, Waurn Ponds and Waterfront campuses. They are available to all students and staff, regardless of religious belief, and offer a quiet and peaceful environment for you to reflect or practise your faith. We also have multi-faith chaplains on staff who you can speak with for spiritual support.
- We are here to help if you experience disability, neurodiversity or have primary carer responsibilities that affect your studies. Our Disability Resource Centre team is available to adjust, recommend and provide services that will allow you to achieve your best.
