Can I participate in NAVIGATE if I am beyond my 1st year at Deakin?

Yes, you can participate in the NAVIGATE program regardless of what year of study you are in. Our NAVIGATE mentors will tailor their support to meet you wherever you are in your university journey.

Can my mentor come to my classes with me?

No, NAVIGATE Mentors cannot support you during your classes. You will be able to meet your NAVIGATE Mentor elsewhere on campus for your weekly sessions.

Can my mentor take study notes, or proof-read my assignments?

No, NAVIGATE Mentors are not support workers or tutors, so they cannot take notes for you nor proof-read your assignments. However, they can refer you to the appropriate Deakin services who can assist you with getting support for both things.

What can I expect from the NAVIGATE social events and do I have to attend?

The NAVIGATE social events are an opportunity for you to increase your social confidence at uni and form social connection and community with other like-minded students. The social events are safe, inclusive and neuro-affirming. They are also held in low sensory environments. Examples of past social event activities include playing card games, arts and crafts, mindfulness colouring, trivia and pet therapy. Only students and mentors in the NAVIGATE program are invited to attend these events. Your attendance at social events is voluntary.

I am not comfortable with coming onto campus yet, or I am an online student, can I have my mentoring sessions online?

We understand that being on campus can be overwhelming or stressful for some, and for students studying online, it may not be feasible to meet with your mentor on campus. As such, you can have NAVIGATE mentoring sessions online or via a phone call.
