If you are interested in casual or fixed-term academic teaching and research and believe you have the qualifications and capability to work within our teams, we encourage you to submit an expression of interest application. We are looking for people with expertise and contemporary experience in:

  • Early childhood teaching
  • Primary teaching
  • Secondary teaching
  • Vocational training
  • Higher education teaching

How to apply

If you would like to proceed with your expression of interest, please apply here.

If you have any queries regarding the process, please contact the School at soe-sm@deakin.edu.au.

What to expect

Applications will be held in our academic register, and will be viewable by Unit Chairs and Course Directors.

When an opportunity arises, you may be contacted by the Unit Chair or Course Director to discuss your expression of interest.

Following agreement between both parties, employment documentation will be emailed to you for completion and signing. Once documentation is submitted, you will receive confirmation of employment from the School.

Please note, an expression of interest does not guarantee that you will be employed as a casual or fixed-term academic staff member.

Working with Children Check

All staff who are employed to undertake teaching and research require a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) before they commence work. A valid registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) is also sufficient.

Deakin University is required to meet Victorian Government legislation relating to child wellbeing and safety (‘child safe standards’), and as a result of this legislative requirement the University Executive made the decision that all current academic and professional staff whose roles involve the possible current or future contact with children and young people under 18 years (including oral, written or electronic communication) as part of their work will be required to provide the University with a current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC).
