Global Experiential Learning
Experiential learning at its best!
UPDATE from Deakin Abroad (25 August): COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to cause uncertainty around the world, leading to the Australian Governments issuing a worldwide travel advisory of “Do not travel”. Due to the high level of uncertainty, the university has decided to suspend ALL face to face global mobility programs scheduled to commence prior to June 2021. We will however, have a range of virtual global learning opportunities on offer while borders are closed.
At this stage, we are unable to confirm your plans to study overseas in Trimester 2, 2021. However, applications for trimester-long exchange will open on 1 September 2020 and we encourage you to apply. Updates in regards to short term June/July 2021 programs will be announced in January 2021. We appreciate that this is inconvenient and recognise that the COVID-19 situation is very fluid in a number of countries across the globe. We will continue to monitor the situation and we hope to provide an update on Trimester 2 programs by February 2021.
Global Experiential Learning (GEL) engages Deakin students through Work Integrated Learning, Social Impact Programs and our High Achieving Series in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Make yourself stand out on the job market while gaining course credit as you try one (or more) of our programs.
GEL programs are typically of 2-4 weeks’ duration. They are run twice a year: over the June/July inter-trimester break and during the November-February (T3) period. Applications open in March and July respectively. Funding is also available.
Your GEL experience can include the following:
Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
Think: Internship, real-world experience with some of the best companies around the world
Social Impact Programs
Think: Community development, health promotion, environmental justice, United Nations SD Goals
High Achiever Series
Think: Selective research opportunities, prominent internships, global conferences
