Short Term Partner Programs
Short term experiences with a long term impact
UPDATE from Deakin Abroad (28 July): COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to cause uncertainty around the world, leading to the Australian Governments issuing a worldwide travel advisory of “Do not travel”. Due to the high level of uncertainty, we would encourage all students to factor this in when selecting units and enrolling in Trimester 2. At this stage, we are unable to confirm your plans to study overseas in 2021 and encourage you to ensure your enrolment for T2 2020 reflects this. We appreciate that this is inconvenient and recognise that the COVID 19 situation is very fluid in a number of countries across the globe. We will continue to monitor the situation and we hope to provide an update on T3 programs by the end of September 2020.
In the meantime please check our virtual study options listed below.
Short Term Partner Programs are short overseas experiences that run during Deakin’s trimester breaks with the aim to fast-track your degree. These two to six-week programs are offered by Deakin’s partner universities or approved hosts. Past programs include Psychology in the Netherlands, Healthcare in the UK, Law in Denmark or Finance in China.
You must have a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60 and above to apply although some discretion may apply to this requirement - please email Deakin Abroad to discuss. If you are undertaking your final unit abroad, your attendance at a graduation ceremony may be delayed due to your host university releasing results at conflicting times. By proceeding with a Short Term Partner Program application, you acknowledge that you will need to attend the next available graduation ceremony.
- There are two types of short term partner programs:
- Exchange: You pay tuition fees to Deakin University as per normal but pay all associated program costs directly to your host institution.
- Study Abroad: You pay tuition fees and all associated program costs directly to your host institution.
Please refer to the specific program brochure to find out whether your program is Exchange or Study Abroad.
Due to the current international travel bans in place, we have been working hard finding you virtual short term program alternatives. Below you find a list of approved units along with the credit level or equivalent unit of study at Deakin. When you find a unit of interest, please click on the unit name and you will be taken to the program brochure with more specific information and the option to apply. Deakin Abroad will contact you with the next steps once you submit your application.
There are a number of benefits studying with a partner University overseas online. Due to our current international travel bans we are unable to travel and study overseas. These programs might not physically take you overseas but there are still plenty of benefits to undertake an exchange program online:
- Utilise the trimester break and gain Deakin credit points towards your degree
- Study from the comfort of your home during times of isolation
- Add your studies at the foreign University to your resume
- You learn how Universities across the world teach and structure their courses
- It is more affordable as you have no travel costs
- You still virtually meet lots of like-minded people from around the world.
