Our systems

Student Connect

StudentConnect is the online system that manages your personal and enrolment details at Deakin. During your study, it’s where you can change your enrolment by adding or withdrawing from units, and view your results. You can also change your details in StudentConnect, like your preferred name, address and phone number.

DeakinSync

DeakinSync is the online system that manages your learning at Deakin. It’s where you will access your unit sites, which include your course materials, learning modules, assessment information and message boards for communication with unit staff and fellow students. After you’ve enrolled in your units, your unit sites will appear as tiles in the centre of your DeakinSync homepage. They generally become active one week before the study period starts.

DeakinSync also includes resources such as a news feed, links to support services and a progress bar which shows your progression in your course.

You can access both StudentConnect and DeakinSync in your internet browser, so spend some time browsing these systems and add them to your bookmarks.

Your Deakin email and the university calendar

As a Deakin student, you receive your own Deakin email address. Your Deakin email address is your username/student number followed by @deakin.edu.au. For example, if your username is S00001234, your email address will be S00001234@deakin.edu.au.

All official correspondence from Deakin will come to your Deakin email address, so it’s essential you check your email every few days so you don’t miss something important. You will also receive unit-related communication (which may be important for an assessment or to pass your unit), as well as other updates in relation to your enrolment or fees.

You can access your Deakin email in several different ways, including from DeakinSync (the ‘email’ button is in the top right-hand corner), using Microsoft Outlook in the program (download from our Software Library) or in your browser, or by adding your Deakin email account to your preferred mail app (e.g. IOS MailAndroid Mail and Windows Mail). You can also learn about forwarding your Deakin email to another email account.

Your Deakin email also has a handy calendar functionality, which means you can quickly and easily add all the important dates (teaching periods, exams, university shutdown etc.) related to your course and see them in one place.

Multi-Factor Authentication

All Deakin student accounts must have Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) applied to them. MFA is a special security measure: instead of just using a password, it requires you to input a combination of security information.

Deakin enforces MFA to protect all our accounts and data. We use an app to verify your identity when you log in to all Deakin applications (in addition to your username and password).

We also recommend you strengthen your passwords by using passphrases, and use a password manager to remember them.
