How to get involved

Did you know there are more than 60,000 students at Deakin?

Connecting with your peers is a very important part of your success at university, and being part of a network of fellow students can come in handy when you need support, advice or just someone to have a chat with. But sometimes it’s hard to know how to meet people – here are some ways to do it.

  • Join DUSA, the Deakin University Student Association, if you want to get involved in events and activities. You can also join one of the wide variety of DUSA clubs on offer. Whether you’re interested in sport, politics, gaming or the arts – DUSA has a club for everyone!
  • Events are a great way to meet people: there are always lots of university events happening, from social gatherings to talks and performances to fitness classes.
  • If you're studying online, we run lots of online events. PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) are a great way to meet fellow students online and don't forget to join our Facebook group for new students.
  • Your unit sites each have a discussion board where you can introduce yourself and say hello to other students enrolled in the same unit. Once you’ve connected, you can form a study group and discuss your classes and assessments online.

Join your faculty peer-mentoring program

Each faculty at Deakin runs dedicated peer mentoring programs for new students during the first weeks of every trimester.

Peer mentors are students, just like you, who are further along in their studies. They are equipped to guide you and help you adjust to university life. They are also from your faculty, so they’ll understand the ins and outs of your area of study. But they can help you with anything study-related, and they can share with you how they’ve achieved success.

Join your faculty program now by clicking on your faculty tile below and get matched with a peer mentor from your faculty.
