Host an intern

Host organisations

Hosting a Deakin intern within your organisation can be a great experience. Deakin students can bring a new and fresh approach to your projects. They're eager to learn and gain-real world experience to help them in their career journey. Hosting a Deakin student for an internship with your organisation is an effective way to identify talent: you never know, your intern may become your future employee.

Internship experiences

Internship experiences comprise a placement with a host organisation, and reflective assessment tasks to reinforce students' understanding and interpretation of the workplace, which contribute as credit towards their degree. Our internship processes are flexible to ensure they suit almost any organisation, and cover part-time, full-time, unpaid and paid placements, both domestically and abroad.

Process to secure a Deakin Intern

We have a straightforward process to help you source a Deakin student intern for your organisation.

  1. Internship Details: Use our Position Description template to provide necessary information for academic credit approval and student promotion.
  2. Promotion: We’ll promote the internship to relevant students, recommending an application window of up to 3 weeks. We'll confirm the application deadline once the internship is live.
  3. Selection: Students will apply directly to you via email with their resumes and cover letters. You can interview candidates and make your final selection.
  4. Secure: After selecting an intern, notify us via email. We'll inform the student of next steps, including completing the Internship Registration Form and submitting it at least 2 weeks before the start date for insurance coverage.

Generally, interns will be supervised by a member of staff in your organisation who has experience in the same area or discipline. Students from the Faculty of Arts and Education can have broad knowledge and multidisciplinary skill sets, from the humanities and social sciences to communication and creative arts.
