An international internship is professional work experience that takes place overseas. It offers you the opportunity to work in a new cultural and professional environment, typically for 3–6 weeks (part time or full time).

You must complete between 100–160 hours of your international internship, and the process for securing and registering your international internship for credit is the same as for domestic internships.

There are two ways you can undertake an international internship:

• Apply for an internship through Deakin or a third-party provider.
• Self-source an internship and have it approved for credit.

Social impact (volunteering) programs are typically 2–4 weeks in duration. Participating in a social impact program means dedicating your time and skills to humanitarian endeavours in an international setting, ranging from educational initiatives to conservation projects.

This unique opportunity allows you to actively contribute to positive change, provides a platform to foster cross-cultural experiences and develop a profound comprehension of global challenges. Social impact programs offered through established third-party providers that specialise in coordinating and overseeing volunteering programs.

The process to securing and having your international experience count towards credit is the same as for a domestic internship.

A trimester abroad offers you a global learning opportunity at one of Deakin's many partner organisations. They run for either 1 or 2 trimesters, and you're required to study a full-time load during your time at that university. A trimester abroad is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in a new environment and culture.

When you undertake a short-term partner program, you engage in intensive coursework at one of our partner universities abroad, typically spanning a 2–6-week duration. This mode of learning bears some resemblance to exchange programs, but with distinct advantages – you benefit from smaller class sizes and a condensed timeframe. This approach allows for focused and immersive learning, making it an efficient way to broaden your academic horizons in a shorter time frame.

These programs fit nicely in the June/July and Trimester 3 breaks, so it doesn’t disrupt your studies here in Australia.
