About our approved tools

Deakin GEM is Deakin’s secure genAI platform. It provides access to a large language model (LLM) and is not trained on Deakin specific content or information, course, unit, processes, policies, or systems.

Ways it can help with your study

Deakin GEM for web can support your study by helping you to:

  • clarify complex concepts
  • generate revision questions
  • reflect on your understanding
  • get feedback on clarity and structure
  • support learning without replacing it.

Considerations

Before you use Deakin GEM, keep the following considerations in mind:

  • Deakin GEM is not trained on Deakin specific information.
  • Like all general, conversational LLMs, responses may be incorrect or incomplete.
  • It does not replace guidance from teaching staff.
  • Do not enter personal or confidential information.
  • It should not be used to generate or submit assessment content, as a source of truth for course, policies, or admin advice, or to provide advice on enrolment, wellbeing, crisis, or personal matters.

Studiosity+ is an enhanced online academic support service available to Deakin students. It combines automated feedback tools with access to human academic advisors to support learning, writing and study skills.

Ways it can help with your study

Studiosity+ supports the development of academic writing and student skills by offering:

  • instant automated feedback on writing, structure, grammar and referencing
  • personalised feedback on assignment drafts from academic advisors
  • the ability to ask questions and provide support across a range of subject areas
  • resources to develop academic skills such as critical thinking and academic writing.

Considerations

Before using Studiosity+, keep the following considerations in mind:

  • Automated feedback may be general and require your judgement to apply appropriately.
  • Advisor feedback is developmental and cannot be submitted as assessment content.
  • Feedback does not guarantee alignment with specific unit marking criteria.
  • This is not a replacement for engaging with teaching staff or course materials.

Microsoft Copilot for web is an AI-powered assistant developed by Microsoft. It helps users search, summarise and generate content using natural language prompts, drawing on web-based information.

Ways it can help with your study

Microsoft Copilot for web can support your study by helping you to:

  • summarise web-based information and articles
  • generate outlines, study notes or draft text that you refine
  • understand concepts in simpler terms
  • brainstorm and generate ideas
  • plan tasks and organise information.

Considerations

Before using Microsoft Copilot for web, keep the following considerations in mind:

  • Information may be inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Sources may not always be clearly referenced or suitable for academic work.
  • Responses can be generic and lack discipline specific depth.
  • Must be used carefully to avoid academic integrity issues.

  • reflecting on your own learning through structured activities
  • engaging more actively with assessment tasks and criteria
