Readmission after academic or general misconduct exclusion

Students who have been excluded for unsatisfactory academic progress, breach of academic integrity or general misconduct (behavioural) may be eligible to apply for readmission to their course, provided they have completed the required exclusion period and meet the relevant readmission requirements.

Any pending matters with the University Appeals Committee (UAC) or any external bodies (e.g. National Student Ombudsman) must be resolved before your readmission application can be processed. To appeal the readmission decision, please refer to Deakin's academic progress policy.

Readmitting students will be required to evidence strategies to ensure they can return to study successfully.

If you wish to apply for readmission after discontinuation for reasons other than exclusion (e.g. non-payment of fees, voluntary withdrawal from studies or allowing enrolment to lapse) please visit the apply for readmission webpage.

Note: Semester deadlines are only relevant for students applying to courses offered in Semester 1 or Semester 2.

Readmission of accredited courses

Students re-admitting into accredited courses may need to enter the latest version and complete additional or repeated units if prior studies are outdated due to admission to practice, professional accreditation or association membership requirements.

Readmission to initial teacher education courses

Students applying to readmit into initial teacher education (ITE) courses may be required to sit the Casper (Computer-based assessment for sampling personal characteristics) test.

Assessment of recognition of prior learning (RPL)

Previously granted RPL will be reassessed at readmission under the current RPL policy and course rules to ensure currency of knowledge and skills.

What to include in your application

You must provide the following documents with your readmission application.

Personal statement supporting your application for readmission. Your statement should address:
- Why you wish to return to the course.
- The factors or behaviours that led to your exclusion.
- The actions you have taken during the exclusion period to address those factors or behaviours.
- What has changed and why the previous issues have been resolved, reduced or are now being effectively managed.
- Your proposed study load, time commitments and approach to completing your course.
- The university, professional and/or personal supports and strategies you will use.
- What you will do if the circumstances that previously affected your studies recur.
Course map
you must provide an updated and current course map completed by a Student Central advisor with a proposed enrolment plan. Applications without this will not be considered by the Committee.
Certified academic transcripts
If you've studied since your previous enrolment at Deakin, include certified copies of transcripts and evidence of completion (if applicable) from all studies.
Independent third-party supporting evidence
To help us understand your circumstances and assess your application, please provide independent supporting evidence showing that the issues that contributed to your previous exclusion have been addressed or are no longer likely to impact your studies.

Providing detailed and relevant evidence will help us better understand your situation and your plans for achieving academic success if your application for readmission is approved.

Where relevant independent evidence cannot reasonably be obtained, explain why and provide any alternative evidence available.

Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

Examples of supporting evidence include:
- Medical documentation confirming that your academic performance was affected by illness, injury or a health condition and, where relevant, demonstrating that your condition has improved, become well managed during your period of exclusion, and that you are ready to return to study.
- Documentation from a qualified professional (such as a counsellor, psychologist, social worker or other relevant professional) confirming that your studies were affected by personal, family or other significant circumstances and, where relevant, that these circumstances have improved.
- Evidence of employment, volunteer work, training or further study completed during your exclusion period. This can help demonstrate your readiness to return to study and your capacity to successfully engage with your course requirements.
