UK – Lilli

Deakin student Lilli on Trimester exchange in the UK 2023

Student: Lilli
Course: Bachelor of Psychology (Honors)
Program: Trimester Abroad T1 2023

I loved my time at Lancaster in the UK! The university is so incredibly social as they have so many different clubs and sports teams that meet regularly and they are so easy to join and get involved in. I joined the dance club, the craft club, and the Harry Potter Society.

The study abroad team organised so many events for international students at least once a month.

The university also has a fantastic college program that helps you feel as though you belong to a close group within the university. Each college had a bar/common room with very regular events such as quiz/trivia nights and viewing parties for various sports as well as the Eurovision song contest.

I felt very included and involved, I think that choosing Lancaster for my study abroad experience was the best choice I've ever made and I wouldn't change anything about my time away for the world.

I feel like your 20s can feel so lonely, you're just waiting for you adult life to begin, but this experience really pushed me outside my comfort zone, to get off my phone, to be more present in each moment, to make real connections with people, and to try new activities. I made so many amazing friends from all over the world that I am still in touch with and plan on visiting in the future.

The opportunity for travel both within the UK and to other European countries was endless and really sparked my interest in engaging in even more travel in the future! I almost did not want to leave.
