UPDATE from Deakin Abroad (21 January 2021): COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to cause uncertainty around the world, leading to the Australian Governments issuing a worldwide travel advisory of “Do not travel”. Due to the high level of uncertainty, the university has decided to suspend ALL face-to-face global mobility programs scheduled to commence in or prior to October 2021. The decision on when travel will recommence will be reviewed closer to October.
At this stage, we are unable to confirm your plans to study overseas in 2022. Applications for exchange in 2022 will not open until the Australian Government travel restrictions allow international travel. We appreciate that this is inconvenient and recognise that the COVID 19 situation is very fluid in several countries across the globe. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide a 2022 update as soon as possible.
While face-to-face global mobility programs are suspended, Deakin will continue offering virtual global learning programs. If you are interested in a virtual program, please monitor our website and social media channels.
A Trimester Abroad offers you the global learning opportunity at one of the many partner universities Deakin has an agreement with, for either one or two trimesters. With more than 200 partner universities all over the world, you have a great range to choose from.
Where do you want to go?
COVID-19 has disrupted travel arrangements for 2021. We hope to have semester exchange offerings for you in 2022. In the meantime, we are taking the time to refresh all our international exchange information and guidelines.
While face-to-face global mobility programs are suspended, Deakin will continue offering virtual global learning programs. Virtual global learning programs offer exciting opportunities to gain meaningful intercultural experiences during the time of COVID-19. While borders around the world are closed, we are bringing the world to you!
You can become a virtual student at partner universities such as Aarhus University (Denmark), Neoma Business School (France) and Università Cattolica (Italy). Complete an online internship at high profile multi-national companies, or participate in social impact programs.
Head to the virtual short term partner programs and virtual internship websites for further information. If you have any questions about a particular destination or University partner, please email our team for assistance - we would love to help!
All on-campus information sessions have been postponed. Please follow the link below to view the online information session.
For all students planning on submitting an application for an exchange program it is compulsory to attend an information session. Please ensure you bring valid student ID, as your attendance will be registered by the Deakin Abroad team upon arrival. If you are unable to attend an on-campus information session, there is a self-registration unit available through DeakinSync.
While students are unable to physically travel abroad at this time, there are wonderful opportunities to study with partner universities online and virtually meet students from around the globe. Our Virtual Exchange Program offers you this unique opportunity to study online at selected partner universities.
You can study a few international units alongside your Deakin subjects and gain credit towards your Deakin degree. Learning from academic staff of our international exchange partners, you will develop cross-boundary and cross-cultural awareness all from the comfort of your own home.

The Deakin Abroad team has developed a database of units that have previously been approved by Deakin faculties to be studied at partner institutions in order to assist students with selecting units. Students who have difficulty finding units in course catalogues are able to utilise this database as a starting point to the unit selection process.
- just because a unit has been approved in the past does not guarantee it will be approved again; units from this database will still be required to be submitted to faculties for approval
- some partner universities may not have previously approved units
- some courses may not have previously approved units
- some partner universities may not approve units that have been approved in the past.
Before you start, have a look at the application process which is explained on this downloadable flyer. You can refer to it at any time as you progress through your application.
Please remember that your Trimester Abroad application(s) can only be submitted between the Faculty Appointment Deadline and the Trimester Abroad Application Deadline.
