Trimester Abroad

UPDATE from Deakin Abroad (25 August): COVID-19 (coronavirus) continues to cause uncertainty around the world, leading to the Australian Governments issuing a worldwide travel advisory of “Do not travel”. Due to the high level of uncertainty, the university has decided to suspend ALL face to face global mobility programs scheduled to commence prior to June 2021. We will however, have a range of virtual global learning opportunities on offer while borders are closed.
At this stage, we are unable to confirm your plans to study overseas in Trimester 2, 2021. However, applications for trimester-long exchange will open on 1 September 2020 and we encourage you to apply. Updates in regards to short term June/July 2021 programs will be announced in January 2021. We appreciate that this is inconvenient and recognise that the COVID-19 situation is very fluid in a number of countries across the globe. We will continue to monitor the situation and we hope to provide an update on Trimester 2 programs by February 2021.

A Trimester Abroad offers you the global learning opportunity at one of the many partner universities Deakin has an agreement with, for either one or two trimesters. With more than 200 partner universities all over the world, you have a great range to choose from.

Where do you want to go?

With over 200 partner universities to choose from, narrowing down your choices can be quite a task. To make this process a little bit easier, we recommend you start with your most desired country destination, if you want to be in a big city or a regional area and what kind of experience you wish to  have. If you are still stuck, contact Deakin Abroad for help!

Attend an Information Session

All on-campus information sessions have been postponed. Please follow the link below to view the online information session.

Online Information Session

For all students planning on submitting an application for an exchange program it is compulsory to attend an information session. Please ensure you bring valid student ID, as your attendance will be registered by the Deakin Abroad team upon arrival. If you are unable to attend an on-campus information session, there is a self-registration unit available through DeakinSync.

Virtual Exchange Programs

While students are unable to physically travel abroad at this time, there are wonderful opportunities to study with partner universities online and virtually meet students from around the globe. Our Virtual Exchange Program offers you this unique opportunity to study online at selected partner universities.

You can study a few international units alongside your Deakin subjects and gain credit towards your Deakin degree. Learning from academic staff of our international exchange partners, you will develop cross-boundary and cross-cultural awareness all from the comfort of your own home.

Fast track your degree or test the waters to see if an exchange study option is right for you in the future. Explore your options below:

Previously Approved Database

The Deakin Abroad team has developed a database of units that have previously been approved by Deakin faculties to be studied at partner institutions in order to assist students with selecting units. Students who have difficulty finding units in course catalogues are able to utilise this database as a starting point to the unit selection process.

Please note:

  • just because a unit has been approved in the past does not guarantee it will be approved again; units from this database will still be required to be submitted to faculties for approval
  • some partner universities may not have previously approved units
  • some courses may not have previously approved units
  • some partner universities may not approve units that have been approved in the past.
