Individual Development Plan (IDP)

The Individual Development Plan (IDP) is a reflective and goal-setting tool designed to support Pre-Service Teachers (PSTs) who may need additional guidance during their professional experience placement. It helps identify areas of concern, set specific goals, and outline strategies and supports to ensure positive progress throughout the placement.

The IDP is completed collaboratively during a support meeting involving the PST and academic staff (typically the Unit Chair and/or Course Director). It forms a shared understanding of the concerns raised and establishes a clear action plan linked to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (AITSL).

The IDP includes:

  • A summary of the concerns discussed
  • Agreed goals aligned to teaching standards
  • Specific actions the PST will undertake
  • Support strategies and available resources
  • A commitment to next steps.

Once completed, the IDP is shared with the Unit Chair and may be reviewed during follow-up meetings. It is designed to foster accountability, proactive engagement, and professional growth.
