The DRC is Deakin's Disability Resource Center.
We're here to provide information and services to any student with a disability, health, or mental health condition that is affecting their study or participation in university life.
There are a lot of reasons why you might want to register for support from the Disability Resource Center.
You might have periods of time where studying is very difficult. This could be for a longer term health reason, like depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, or recovery from an injury. Perhaps you have a learning disability and could benefit from an alternate approach to your learning. Maybe you need an Auslan sign interpreter in your class. You might have a temporary injury and are having trouble doing your exams or getting to class.
Whatever your personal situation, the DRC is here to provide you with support that suits you. We can provide a range of support that will assist you to study successfully and participate in university life.
We can provide assistance like talking to academic staff about your needs or providing study materials in accessible formats. We can also support you with access to assistive technology or changes to exam arrangements and much more.
When you register with the Disability Resource Center, you'll meet your Disability Liaison Officer, who you can talk to on the phone or in person. They'll work with you to create an access plan to help reduce any educational barriers you may experience as a result of your particular situation.
Your plan will be regularly reviewed or you can make time to check in with the DRC whenever needed.
Requesting support is easy. We just need some information and supporting documents from an appropriate professional like your doctor or counsellor.
