When to arrive in Australia
As an international student commencing study, it is important to plan your arrival time to give you the best chance of starting your study successfully.
Trimester 1 2024 dates
- Prepare Week (International Student Welcome): 19–23 February 2024
- OWeek: 26 February–1 March 2024
- Week 1: 4–8 March 2024
There are disadvantages to arriving late and if you arrive too late, you won’t be able to commence your study.
Information to defer your course
If your visa has not been granted or you have not enrolled due to unforeseen circumstances as such you cannot arrive latest by Friday 15 March 2024, we recommend that you defer your course to the next available intake.
What happens when you defer?
If you defer, the following will occur:
- A new offer letter will be issued for a future intake.
- Should you accept the new offer, a new CoE will be issued.
- Your paid tuition fees will be transferred to the next available trimester.
- The indicative/estimated annual tuition fees may be reassessed and you may be liable to pay the difference from your initial paid deposit.
Benefits of deferring
If you defer your studies:
- You can upload your new CoE to your visa application via your IMMIAccount to ensure you are granted a student visa for the deferred course duration. This will avoid you needing to apply for an extension to your student visa and the financial implications in the future.
- You should extend your Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) to cover the full duration of your stay in Australia. It is recommended to purchase OSHC for an additional 2 months past your CoE course end date. Visit the Department of Home Affairs webpage for more information on OSHC and length of stay for student visas.
