Refund of monies in credit for international students

If you withdraw, intermit your course or reduce your study load before census date, you may be eligible to apply for a refund of tuition fees paid. The amount of your refund will be determined by the date of your enrolment change.

Refund of student fees

Refunds are possible if you withdraw from your course or reduce your study load before census date. The amount of your refund depends on the date you withdraw.

You could be eligible for a refund if:

  • the University has received the money that is to be refunded and the funds have cleared
  • you have already actioned your enrolment changes
  • the effective date of the enrolment change is on or before the census date
  • the payment has not already been allocated to other outstanding student fees, e.g. fees assessed for the following study period.

If you have not commenced your studies at Deakin, please refer to your offer letter or contact a student adviser at Student Central.

Refund of monies in credit for current international students

A refund can only be paid when:

  • your StudentConnect record shows you have money in credit, and
  • all other debts owing to the University (such as, library fines or accommodation fees) have been paid.

To apply for a refund, complete the online refund form in StudentConnect. If you don't apply for a refund, any amount in credit will be applied to tuition fees for future enrolments. Please note that once your refund has been processed, your credit balance will show as $0 but it may still take up to 3 weeks for the refund to appear in your account.

Before withdrawing, you should seek advice from a student adviser at Student Central or check the withdrawal and refund dates for international students in their first study period and current international students.

Refund of monies in credit for past international students

A refund can only be paid when:

  • your student record shows you have money in credit, and
  • all other debts owing to the University (such as, library fines or accommodation fees) have been paid.

Complete the application for refund of fees (PDF, 210.0KB) form and email to submit at enquiry with Student Central.

Under normal circumstances, refunds will be processed within 3 weeks of receipt of your correctly completed application.

Please note that once your refund has been processed, your credit balance will show as $0 but it may still take up to 15 business days for the refund to be received in your account.

All refunds are paid in Australian dollars by one of the following methods.

  • Electronic transfer to your personal Australian bank account. Payments cannot be made into a 3rd party bank account.
  • Telegraphic transfer to an overseas bank account.
  • Bank draft to an overseas address.

If you do not apply for a refund of credit and you enrol in the future, any amount in credit will be automatically applied to your assessed tuition fees.
