International student orientation
Your Orientation program includes an International Student Welcome event designed to introduce you life in Australia and help you commence your studies at Deakin.
You will also attend a range of important course and study-related sessions where you can talk to academics, other students and meet peer mentors. Make sure you register to attend your sessions!
Most importantly, there will be lots of opportunities to connect with other new students through social events in our International Student Connect program.
The first step is to view your Orientation program in TargetConnect. Here, you will see a list of your Orientation sessions.

You can also explore the Orientation experience at Deakin on our dedicated webpage.
The essential sessions include:
- the International Student Welcome, which will introduce you to life in Australia and studying at Deakin.
- your course information session, which will introduce your area of study, your course structure and the teaching teams you will be learning from. It’s also a good opportunity for you to double check you’re enrolled in the correct units.
- Friday Friends, a series of social events where you will meet other new international students.
- a campus tour and a Library tour.
- a carnival day run by DUSA, the Deakin University Student Association.
- a session introducing your digital and physical learning environments.
- a session introducing the practical support services available to you, such as peer mentors.
- a series of sessions specifically for international students on topics such as your visa, BUPA Overseas Health Cover and work rights.
In addition to these core sessions, there will also be many more informal opportunities for you to meet people, make connections and get involved with all that Deakin offers. Keep an eye out for the chance to join a club or society, try a new sport or chat to other students in your course as you're moving around your new campus.
