Welcome to DU2D Cut Lab! Laser and 5-axis Water Jet Cutting. DU2D Cut Lab provides access to the world class cutting technologies for complex shapes for any material in product realisation, for students, industry and the wider Deakin University community.
Whether you want to learn the technology and methods yourself, or need some additional expertise on your next project, we are here to help.
Spaces and open times
The Heavy Manufacturing Lab KE1.223 is open from 9am – 4pm weekdays.
These laboratory spaces contain a number of different pieces of equipment as outlined below. Usage of all equipment must be approved by a technical staff member, and appropriate inductions, training and project safety assessment completed.

You must have completed the following prior to using the laboratories.
Laser cutter
Trotec Speedy 500 Laser Cutter
Operation | Adobe Illustrator is the program used to operate the Trotec laser. |

Materials / Sizes | Acrylic sheet up to 12mm thick any colour can be cut or etched. Other materials on Technician approval (OH&S) |
Available sizes in workshop | 3mm & 6mm clear acrylic other sizes and colours can be ordered on request. |
CAD file type | To be saved in .DXF 2007 format (example below): Or an Adobe Illustrator drawing file can be used.

Cutting tolerance | Machine accuracy is up to (plus or minus 0.1mm) not for high tolerance work. |
